Harrisburg Bridges
Walnut St Bridge

The Walnut St Bridge was originally built in 1890 to carry vehicle traffic from Harrisburg City to West Shore. In 1972, after hurricane Agnes, the bridge was closed to motor vehicles. In 1996 a rapid snow and ice thaw created conditions for flooding. Very high waters combined with large ice flows eventually caused the collapse of 3 sections of the bridge on the West Shore side of City Island. Thankfully the portion connecting Harrisburg to City Island survived.

It's nice being able to park at City Island, walk around the island then cross the Walnut St Bridge to grab dinner in Harrisburg, enjoy the annual ArtsFest or any of the many other events throughout the year.
